There was a young man who grow up in a blue collier family, and after 12 years of schooling he walked across the stage, like all the other seniors in his class, to revived his diploma. Two weeks after receiving that diploma he entered into the United States Air Force to start a career in the military. After 5 years into that career, the United States Air Force found out that he was a functional illiterate, his education level was at the third grade level.
While he was preforming his duties as aircraft maintenance specialist he got injured and because of that injure he couldn’t returned to preforming those duties as aircraft maintenance specialist. Not being able to return to his job and not being able to read or write he decided it was time to get out of the military and get and education. After being discharged from United States Air Force he ventured out to get that education he really needed to get that job in the civilian world. It took four year for this young man to get a 2 year degree in Civil Engineering, a Drafting background and a background in Computers Science. He had to start out in college with the very basics of schooling and it was very basic.
After six years of college this young man decided he would take a variety test at the Diagnostician Counseling Center at the local Community College to see if he had any learning disabilities. What this young man found out was, that he has Dyslexia. The tests showed that the young man has trouble with visual and auditory processing of words and symbols which is related to Dyslexia. The test showed that that young man could now read at the 8th grade, math was 12+ grade, and spelling at the 3rd grade level.
That young man thought being in the engineering field he would not do much writing just math. What a fool he was, as a state inspector building roads and bridges, he was writing reports everyday, no matter what he did, he had to document it.
In retirement that Old Man With Shaky Hands thought he would now learn Photography at the age of 69. Your never to old to learn anything you want to learn.
